@ksen I can somewhat see their logic in this. Monsters are creatures with no intelligence(atleast in the minds of these nobles) so they can effectively cheese the whole Month of Demon. The same strategy would not work against humans.

Technically yes, but that logic is flawed. First question should be "how the hell small border town survived in the first place". And at least take basic precaution based on that little info they have about the wall being sturdy. But they don't even send siege equipment. Thinking that army will provide more fear than monsters. The same army of nobles which was hiding in the fortress during month of demon.
But nah, gotta earn dem glory like in good old days of yore.

1. I seriously wanna thank the "group" that basically got together to make this translation. All-star effort.
2. The poor guy knows there's a slaughter of his friends and loved ones on the horizon and he's powerless to stop them from walking into it. That must be really depressing.

@ksen: To their knowledge, a skilled knight can take on a monster easily enough, and even easier with a wall to protect them from getting zerg rushed.

So to them, they're thinking that Roland survived the winter similar to how they did it: Hide behind a wall with a small unit of knights dealing with the ones who get by.

As for this attack force

Before they even get fully into formation, Roland's cannons already start bombarding them.
They charge, but the cannon group just switch to grape shot shell and basically beehive'd the groups that got closer.

On their retreat, Roland's army constant kept a certain pace away, to ambush them when the coalition force try to rest (Lightning is in charge of recon so she can ensure Roland's forces are always just outside of the scout's range)

The coup de grace came with Roland using his concrete boat to set up ambush position ahead, on their way to Longsong.
Most people who fight back get shot, the rest get captured.

Petrov's father and the knight here survived btw
