I don't mind the developments, but the power fantasy trope of the MC dismissively crushing opposition really doesn't work here.

I mean, it's still a power fantasy, but the story is supposed to be focused on the main character wanting to live in a peaceful era where he isn't ostracized for being too strong. Flexing your power over probably the second strongest in the school isn't going to achieve that, and half-ignoring your opponent is just a rude gesture in general.

at least her character is intelligent enough to get how frail an era of peace really is. if our world is already the way it is, imagine adding magic and monsters on top of it, human nature is competition at its finest. i only wonder if the weakening of the magicians has the hands of someone else, it is quite suspicious since the decline was so fast.

What I don't understand is why the amber eyes are so looked down on. Yes, it takes a few years to learn to use magic. But they can then use ALL elements, instead of just one or two like the 'common' mages.
I would totally be willing to study magic for a decade to get the incredibly versatile multi-magic over just being able to...say...burn things better.

Edit: After re-reading the beginning chapters, I realize that people with amber eyes aren't even being taught magic anymore... Which seems incredibly stupid, considering he said that 90% of the population has them. That is a LOT of mages that will never be valuable...
