I mean, when you think about it. The mage is semi aware of their relationship (reincarnation, descendant, whatever it is with his comment with her coming to him again). He has his reservations but in the end went through with it. Meanwhile to what little we've seen the Prince, the royal family is right in being on guard, I won't blame them for that. But they should also be aware she is just as much a victim of her story father. She's just been in a coma, been told to be involve in a high risk, near impossible bet that was sure for her to lose if she didn't run away and met with the mage/magical being. Now, the Prince who has done 1 or 2 good things so far like lowering her quota and probably 1 or a few more I forgot gets an interest with her since her choices have so far been drastically different to his expectations
