To those who have not yet read this, be forewarned that the author wastes 25% of the entire story on an extremely annoying, arrogant, narcissist rage-inducing 3rd wheel. As a result, both the MC and especially the FMC disappointingly act like complete idiots during that phase of the story. If it weren't for including the 3rd wheel, I'd give the story top marks on the lovey-dovey scale, but because of the 3rd wheel, it turns into the usual clichéd, unnecessary drama-soaked, run-of-the-mill, stupid shoujo school romance.

I hate rival boy arcs, but I believe RB is the one and only shoujo that has a good rival boy arc. It actually has good reasons: because Yusa has bad boys fetish and Kaede is a passive type guy, which could be a problem in the future regardless there is a rival boy or not. Its conclusion of the arc is very good too, IMO. I cried actually, when reading ch 23. I felt like I'd finally found what I was looking for in shoujo manga.

You seem to hate rival boy arcs very much as well. But I challange you, do you have any shoujo you think with better rival boy arc? XD

Your question presumes that I think that this, or any other 3rd wheel arc is good, which I don't. I can, however, give examples of less annoying and more annoying...

Boku no Ie ni oide Wedding I didn't like for the same reasons I didn't like this arc: the 3rd wheel is extremely arrogantly intrusive and the FMC is about a smart as a lead weight and is more concerned with the 3rd wheel than the MC (in this case, her husband). However, this series aggrivated me far more than Risouteki Boyfriend, particularly since the 3rd wheel was after the FMC for practically the whole series.

The 3rd wheel in Fushigi no Kuni no Arisugawa-san isn't all that arrogant or intrusive, but he does try to steal his best friend's girlfriend (who is also as dumb as a concrete block). Annoying, but nowhere near the rage-inducing actions of the 3rd wheel in Risouteki Boyfriend.
