Or they could leave the situation as is, since he is actually diverting the attention of the police towards someone that doesn't resemble the actual kidnapper in any way.

@Beregorn Japanese police are more bound by society than facts. Social standing, the school wanting to cover up her abuse, etc. He sexually abused her without anyone doing anything for a long time, you think police or anyone is gonna do anything against a teacher?

Also this is forced drama for the writers sake. Reeks of Korean-style NTR drama vibes. But this author loves tragedy so.... Yeah.

Author wants to pretend this is a romance or something but it's really a never ending story without true resolution ("slice of life") and a drama fest.

@Kampfarsch Yup it's plot convenience for author to create drama and fears of NTR. Realistically that teacher would have moved onto anotjer bully target at school. No school predator would risk a high profile target.
