My two cents about the ending: I disagree that it's an open ending since this manga has no plot points to leave unresolved, but eh, that's just my opinion. And yes, the ending leaves you feeling somewhat bereft. I think that's partially my fault though, at least for people who read the end pages, because I put more of a focus on the romance than there actually was in the series, probably. I apologize for fluff brain.

Thinking about it, it could’ve been nice for them to have a more concrete happily-ever-after(I’m a sucker for those too) but on second thought, they are still in middle school. Feelings were complicating things to come to grasps with at that age, so a platonic more-than friends but less-than lovers friendship seems just about right for those two

I mean how more open to interpretation can you get? Yes the ending is opening but you have to be blind and obtuse to not realize that both leads feel the same way about each other.

The big obstacle is that Saeki true love is sleeping but in 49 it's clear as day that when she voices her feelings to her sister she's all but confirming that she's absolutely smitten.

Don't be dense people.
