Also I can sympathize with the guy here. From an adult's perspective it's kind of a lose-lose situation so the best thing to do is create some distance.

I've come to loathe that cliche of the characters falling on top of each other face to face. It almost never makes sense how they end up in that position from their previous ones.

But anyways, it is cool that the characters are looking at how a relationship between them will appear from the outside as well. Her friend's got some rather useful stuff to say.
