Yep, of course the brainwashing kid is the actual mastermind. And damn, being able to brainwash people into thinking that nothing exists in that box? You'd think he'd display that ability sooner when they're still fighting Saike's team so they could, you know, accomplish their goals faster.

In hindsight it was kind of dumb for them to leave the two least-trustworthy characters alone in the helicopter.
Also even if he couldn't see it, wouldn't Hizu have heard/felt something in the box that he would mention? He has never been in a situation where he could be brainwashed.
