Looks like both sides was full of scum. Although surprised two demons were able to pass as humans enough to become part of the hero's party. Would think enough investigation beyond power would be done on anyone considered for role to make sure wouldn't turn that power against the king and kingdom. In any case robe keeps somebody from directly killing that scum, doesn't mean can't arrange for him to die indirectly. After stealing everything else but the cloak from him (yes everything in case has a hidden trump card concealed in his clothes,) cut his tongue and limbs off while using fire magic to sear the wounds shut so doesn't bleed to death. Find a dead end and use Earth magic to seal him off with enough air to last several hours. Head far away. Scum will die indirectly from lack of fresh air not direct damage so curse won't activate, and they'll be long gone even if scum does blows up in a huge explosion.

I don't know why they didn't just bury Reusus on the ground with his head sticking out.
He wouldn't be dead so the robe won't trigger, but he's effectively incapacitated for them to return and kill him another time. Even if he dies afterwards, they did not inflict the killing blow so the robe won't reflect anything to them.
