Just once I'd like to see an MC actually refuse an offer like that and actually commit themselves to living an easy, peaceful life like they claim they want. Every time, "join the student council", "join the knights", "join the guild", whatever else, they always go along with it or let themselves get dragged along with whatever someone else wants. Contrary to popular belief, having power does not mean you're obligated to use it; especially when other people want you to use it for their benefit. You want to live a peaceful life, then just do what you want at your own pace.
