@Tatherwood I get what you're saying about Nagatoro, but it's a bit complicated. Yeah she was definitely too harsh in the first chapter, but Nagatoro started out as something far worse than that and while he toned it down he didn't tone it down enough. It seems he realized that because he toned it down even more immediately and I don't think we've seen a Nagatoro that harsh outside of the very first chapter. Generally as long as you can ignore that first chapter the rest of the series becomes a pretty cute story.

You mean like pre-serialization or something?
Pre-serialization was WORSE than serialized Chapter 1. Then he made a "mellower" serialized Chapter 1 that was still way too psychotic. And then he mellowed it even more from Chapter 2 onwards? That it?

Okay. I guess I should adapt the comment then, but point still remains. I don't know how the author intends to solve a fucking sadistic psycho that should literally be in jail from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2. Is it swept under the rug? Cause that automatically brings the quality of the manga down anyway.
If you don't mind giving me the Spoiler tagged on how it's resolved, I'd appreciate it. If out of curiosity, if nothing else. I'm still not touching that with a 10-foot pole

Pre-serialization Nagatoro was quite literally physically and emotionally abusive, no way around it. Chapter 1 Nagatoro is pretty harsh, but still vastly nicer than pre-serialization Nagatoro. Chapter 2 Nagatoro is nicer than chapter 1 Nagatoro, but depending on who you ask still kinda harsh. Chapter 3 then rolls around and she confronts Senpai about her behavior and admits that she's been too harsh to him and asks him why he didn't get mad at her to which he admits that it did upset him, but that he doesn't hate her. After that she mellows out even more and the rest of the chapters are a pretty sweet story about Nagatoro lightly teasing him, but also protecting him from anyone else that tries to pick on him, and about Senpai growing as a person and learning how to stand up for himself and others.

Right. I didn't know (or remember, maybe), that Nagatoro had a pre-serialization version.
Hm... Not sure you explained it, tho. Okay, so in Chapter 3 she admits she's been too hard on him. But why? That's the main thing. HOW did the author bring the character from fucking psycho to cute girl? What's the reason she gives for being a fucking abusive sadist? What's her excuse?
Cause from what you wrote up there, what I see is "Dude, I was so asshole-ish to you, why didn't you get mad? Anyway, sorry, lol. Wanna be friends?". And that is so fucking absurd that it brings the rating of the manga down, as I said. I could see why people consider it a Romcom (AFTER chapter 3), but not how anyone would put it in a Top5: the character makes no sense.

Hm... Since I sometimes have trouble online with my way of writing. I'm not attacking you, or trying to be rude or anything. Just asking for information, or whether I didn't understand something. It's possible that you just didn't mention HOW the character evolved in Chapter 3, and what her reasons are. Or it's possible that it's literally what you wrote, no reason whatsoever, just the author being mediocre.
That's the nuance I wanna clarify.

@Tatherwood From someone who's all caught up on the Nagatoro manga, the best logical explanation I can give you is that she likes teasing people, but she teased the MC (Senpai) until he cried, at which point she realized she'd gone too far and immediately regrets it. She also has

the same dynamic but reversed, with her sister (Nagatoro being teased semi-mercilessly), which might explain some things.

Honestly the first couple chapters up until ~chapter 12 feel like short stories that aren't really in order besides the first chapter. If you really want a chronological narrative, I'd say start ~chapter 15, but I can understand why you'd drop it after the first chapter. Hope that helps.

@ZBubble While I sorta see your point, I still have issues with that use of the word "teasing" when it's literal psychological abuse. Like I said, get-sent-to-prison level stuff.
Also, from how her character is depicted in Chapter 1, it doesn't seem like it's a one-time thing only, OR the first time she does it, so I have trouble going for the "it was just teasing, I didn't realize it was so bad" thing.
Then again, having been bullied for many years, I have trouble understanding AND forgiving bullies in any form or shape, so I'm probably biased here.
