He may lose but he already made the guy slip up again. The entire point of this fight was he wanted a perfect win. But now that has been thrown out.
Y'all must realize these martial artist often have huge as fuck ego. There are of course those with good sportsmanship, but a lot of them have the ego which hit the sky and believe themselves to be the greatest fighter alive.
It makes sense that they think that way, because you have to believe yourself to be the best in order to survive and conquer your enemies in that sort of competitive business

Weird. I think MC will win this one. If not, I'd be interested if his career will never take off when his girlfriend's will. Sounds like it could make for an interesting story.

Therefore, he is hungry to make up for past fuck ups FAIR and SQUARE.
Rather than brush the knock down off as a fluke he acknowledged the fact this dude with inferior power and stamina knocked him on his ass. Is it petty and the sign of perfectionism? Hell yes, but that doesn't suddenly make him a villan, just super competitive. Which is something ya need to win in this sport.

That's why Satoru is such a let down now compared to when he first met his girl. He lost his hunger for VICTORY and that's gonna keep coming back to bite him until he gets it back.

He respectfully asked for a rematch. A mutually beneficial offer that gives both fighters something to gain.
Came into this fully prepared for a clean fight
And keeps any toxic tendencies to himself and(most importantly) in the ring.

This is the tamest and most level headed approach to pettiness I have ever seen in fiction

But that entire argument hinges on the unconfirm and assumption that he thinks like that. That would be literally stereotyping him based on the fact he wants to beat the one guy who he couldn't KO and knocked him down. Then assuming he looks down on every single one of his opponents based on this one instance. At know point does he label this as an injustice. This entire match was set up so he can prove to himself that he can in fact beat this guy. Period. So no, its not the same kind of thing.
I recognize them as toxic Tendencies but I also acknowledge the fact that he is mature enough to keep that shit under control. None of that BS shit talking before a match. No unessary bets tacked onto the fight. The guy who conducts himself as a sane human being instead of letting pettiness ruin him will always be the better alternative.
Even by real world standards this is tame as fuck. Worst case scenario that we're going to get from this guy is he loses and a competitive rivalry starts between him and Satoru. Worst case scenario when u beat other people in real life? Some idiot brings a group to jump u, some punk brings a weapon next time, they come back for more via sneak attack, or they bring an older/stronger friend to beat u up. If this guy was some sort of threat the writer would've protested or confirmed it. So far all we got is a competitive high school student.

Often, boxers that suffer one particularly bad defeat never box professionally again, and not because they are injured. It is because in the back of their mind they have fear. This is why this match is narratively important, overcoming a string of losses is an immense achievement few manage. Doing so to an opponent with strong motivation to bring you down is all the more remarkable.

I never set out to criticise what you said, I was pointing out that what you are saying comes from a position of ignorance. None of what you are going on about matters. A boxer has to win, has to have the mindset to win, and that's all that matters. A knockdown puts the fear in you, getting over that fear is what matters. The reasons don't matter to a boxer, it's whatever reason gets them the win. Whatever reason puts the fight in him. Him going on about humiliation is a measure of his willingness to win, not a measure of his character.

That's where you neglect to consider the context (a boxer, boxing) to make your statement about being "way over the top and completely uncalled for". It is not over the top nor uncalled for, it is necessary. It is clear that it is necessary if you consider the psyche of a fighter, as I've explained. Your assessment of his character neglects to appreciate the context and that is how I know you know jack about boxing.
