some schoolars argue that woman in their period can't touch quran while some allowed it. they both agree that woman still can recite it from their memories though.
About the demon's spit, I think it just arabic superstition. We don't have that here in Indonesia.

I haven't heard of the demon spitting thing, but ShimizuA got it right regarding the touching of the Qur'an by women during their period. IIRC though, even scholars that permit it still consider it "makruh" (i.e. its preferable to avoid dling it out of respect).

The demon's spit seems a superstition in other countries. While leaving the Qur'an opened is a disrespect, according to my classmates who are Muslim.

most scholars consider touching the Quran during a woman's period forbidden (haram) with a few seeing it as that it's preferred to not do it (makruh), but all of them agree that they can touch it if they had a cover on it or something of the like, reading and reciting from their memories should not be spoken aloud too.
the demon spit isn't a real thing, just a superstition and a way to make children behave, we close it as a form of respect to the holy text.
