The layers of hell in Islam is not according to the religion though. This is the first time I hear about this.

@azzanki: Yeah, first time I hear of this too. Whoever misinformed the author about this needs to be put on trial for blasphemy or something.

These 7 names aren't layers of hell, it's actually other names for hell in Arabic, with the general name bing (at least in Saudi Arabia) (Jahannam) people also call it (al-nar) which translate letterly to (the fire).
hell is more like a fiery pit, the deeper the soul is, the more suffering it gets.
Also as in the chapter, it looks like it is listed on the base of religion, in reality, it's more based on how disrespectful to god or hypocrite he human was instead.
