School Ningyo - Vol. 5 Ch. 32 - A Deeper Abyss

Noooooo...a non-ending ;w;
Well it's been a nice ride, thanks for scanlating this Nekomancer!

@edlm

Thanks man! The author was hinting at a continuation... Let's hope he does in the near future since I myself still have lots of questions.

Sudden but I guess the author couldn't do much else.
Thanks for the translation!

@Viakana

Yeah, kinda bummed out as well... Let's hope he continues this in the future... this was finished only in 2017 or 2018, so it's still kinda early. Shinobu's adventure in Kuon Jigahara should be interesting.

This marks the end of our first (since actual group formation) project. Please look forward to our future projects as well that's currently in the works!

Hinting for sequel but this shit is from 2006 (Ended in 2017)

It's been 2020 where's the rest of it lmao

@Xaelath

The series was first published in 2006 but the volumes we know now came much later. Volume 3 was published on 2014.

3 years later was Volume 4 (2017) and then Volume 5 (2018).

Assuming it's gonna take another 3 years, it's probably gonna be in 2021 or 2022 if there ever is gonna be a continuation.

wow.. I don't know what to say.. i-it was such a nice ride and build up.. so much more to unravel.

Seems that way. From what I understand, the confrontation resulted to two things:

- Shouko has declared that no more girls would turn into mermaids, ending the curse.
- Shouko has reverted the hearts of those close to Shinobu.

I guess Shinobu reminded Shouko that she has the power to end the curse herself. But of course that doesn't bring back all the other poor girls. What I don't understand is what made Shouko change her mind about Shinobu. She could have waited for morning and eaten her right then and there.

"But of course that doesn't bring back all the other poor girls. What I don't understand is what made Shouko change her mind about Shinobu. She could have waited for morning and eaten her right then and there."

Imagine being an immortal mermaid living on the same unaging body, without any interactions with the human world, having to watch the curse you created yourself, involuntarily, mind you, turning more and more innocent girls into mindless monsters for dozens of years. She wanted to go back to being human to end it all and meet the one she loved, but there was another way of doing so, and that was accepting death. Nanae would have taken longer to die, sure, but without mermaid flesh, she would indeed die eventually, and they could meet in the afterlife just the same.

Instead of risking Shinobu running away, somehow, and losing her chance at ending everything before she turned into the R mermaid, it was easier to grasp what she could then and there.

@YamiryuuZero

That is a great take man, I wish it could be pinned on top of this thread.

I agree 100%. This story isn't over yet. As you said, Shouko created the curse involuntarily and it has something to do with her family's lineage coming from a mermaid. It's the Kuji family that is cursed, not just Shouko, so the legend could be restarted by any one in the family. That's why Shinobu's going to Shouko's hometown at the end.
