Given more recent context to add to it, I feel like she was talking about herself in the present rather than the character from the novel back then in the first/preview chapter bit of things. It sounds like the only reason the original could have even made it to this age is because she didn't actually have this problem to begin with. MCs theory at the moment seems to be that her mana maladjustment thing is due to the fact that she's not the original resident of the body, let alone even a resident of this world, so she can't handle the mana because she was reincarnated from a world without it. So, she thinks she basically now has about a five year countdown until her death if she doesn't find some way to fix it.
