@tuatara1 Having a good master is probably the best thing for a slave since they are likely a slave due to being poor and being sold into slavery to keep their family alive so freedom would be useless since they would become essentially homeless, penniless and starving however if you have a good master you have a home, a bed, cleaning facilities and food which to me seems better than the former. Slavery doesn’t always have to be bad, it’s just been bad in our history.
 
@Knicker Aside, of course, from slavery being bad *as a concept*, because it involves removing a person's fundamental humanity and classifying them as an object. While it is true that some people treat their objects better than others, it doesn't change the fact that slaves are owned property. Much as with other aspects of capitalism, people will tend to take actions that are in their overall economic self-interest, and if that involves selling off a slave to a worse master, then that's likely to happen. There will always be individuals with stronger moral stances than others, but they tend to not make up the majority of any group. Owning other people is inherently an unethical system.
