Not saying women are infallible, but men should not be allowed to be in-charge or involved with orphanages where they can gain access to the kids for obvious reasons. Though in those times I'm sure that the person who thru money at the orphanages doesn't care how the money is spent , so long as they look good for "caring" about the orphans. Couple of kids getting raped won't sully the persons charity

It's less about the characters and their agency (they have none), and more about the concept in of itself. It's similar to how some people can't read certain manga with allusions to rape. Does it bother me personally? No, but I'm not shocked when I hear that others find it uncomfortable.

And while I will give you that often times, men are the ones involved with the abuse, not all women are innocent either, especially when they were run by nuns who wanted to "convert" or "introduce" the children to religion. My grandma went to an all girls school run by nuns. Now while it is not an orphanage, it was still run by the same people who would run them. They often used physical discipline to punish students for shit like using your left hand (my grandma is left handed) to write with. Orphanages were much worse because the children were usually not accounted for by the government census. Meaning trafficking was easy to pull off and not many cared even if they wound up dead.
Now there were defiantly good orphanages too. But the system as a whole was bad. Poor income, the situation getting better means less work for you, primarily a charity driven operation often run in the shadows of a religious group so as to "secure" believers from a young age.
Also, men were the "workers" in the world for the longest time. Women were either not allowed to, or very rarely did work outside of the home unless it was necessary under specific circumstances (like widowed). So men being more often than women guilty of illegal activity in the "work place" is no surprise when 95% of the time, men were the ones working.

@hartshadwill It's literally a manga about assassination and all the bad parts of the world that this dude currently lives in, If you weren't up for reading a manga with mature content maybe don't read it in the first place and expect something else.

Okay, this doesn't make sense. If he had already picked her, why would those idiots want to sully her first before she gets picked up? Wouldn't the MC detect a problem with her and choose another one? (Assuming it's a normal human and not the assassin)

@sdarkpaladin why would MC not want to adopt her anymore because she was raped? The MC didn't pick her to have sex with her, and the orphanage knows it. They didn't rape her until now and kept her virginity because they thought they could sell her to a rich man who would want to have sex with a virgin girl. They are just thinking "Now that we found someone who genuinely wants to adopt her, what was the point of restraining ourselves? Let's just rape her and give her to him".

Wouldn't they think that the MC (being the rich bugger he is) would find out? They might not know he is an assassin, but they do know he is rich.
If he cares about having sex with her, he wouldn't allow her to get defiled, or rather would defile her himself.
If he doesn't care about having sex with her, he'd generally care about her mental wellbeing.
Either case it's still bad for her to be defiled right before being adopted. The rich guy could complain to the authorities about the orphanage which would generate unnecessary trouble for them as their skirting the law as it is already.

These guys are quite stupid, really. When a rich duud comes, the last thing you wanna have is to send him a kid that will scream at night and have a trauma from their place, especially since few days earlier it didn't look anything like that.
It is indeed quite stupid chase for even more money while not caring at all your tail is catching on fire.
@Liquidxlax so you're saying that when a pedo is put in the prison, he gets to sit with people with similar interests and it is totally safe for him to be in prison, like he won't get beaten or anything, right?
