@Blackstone In the time the series takes place it's a huge deal. He was the effective head of the imperial court later on and his adopting Hideyoshi allowed Hideyoshi to take the title of kampaku essentially solidifying his rule over Japan.

Adopting Shizuko means that Shizuko joins one of the most noble families in the country. So Nobunaga now has a daughter of a family that effectively ruled the upper class of Japan as one of his chief retainers giving him a great tie to the Kyoto aristocracy and the emperor and thus legitimizing him as the effective ruler of Japan as he starts conquering other clans.

Man, i could feel Oda holding his drool from that proposition, the amount of poker face he had to pull there to not start laughing would kill lesser men.

It is Oda that had that mean sounding nickname, something like the heavenly demon lord? If yes, i can totally see why, this version here really portrays that mean energy.

Oda and his wife just chilling in a bath... and i still couldn't hold my fear of them, those two are scary.

Well if this plan goes well, this means Shizuku standing in the high society is guaranteed and some more.

@BroederTrapist Undirect communication is the joy of all authors trying to advance the story in dumb angles. Just look at Faiz.


Jokes aside, these type of communication might have been necessary (as a habit or otherwise) to counter spies and sabotage since it hides the person's intention. The downside being it sometimes gets people into trouble due to misunderstandings and give us 30 episodes worth of fillers

@Suben The problem is that given that she is female, she will have more restrictions if she is adopted into a kuge. Unlike samurai women, who could even go to war if need be, the kuge women are expected to be the exemplar noblewomen (aka. the asthmatic nonworking women who specialize in song and dance). So I'm curious how they expect to handle that cultural aspect.

@Huapollon Eh... the Konoe's influence should be enough to shut some mouths. Besides, if Shizuko is going on stage her deeds would also be made public. Anyone who nitpicks on her "uncultured woman who can't song and dance" trait and tries to restrict her would just get backlash from those wanting her favor, the Konoe clan's favor, and also from the common citizens who benefitted from her food and tools.


On a side note, I never understood why the ancients love "useless women". Maybe it was because of inferiority complex in having a wife more competent than you in every way. Yet i feel like the joys of having a wife more competent than all of my other colleagues is trumps the former.

(then there is that whole feet binding thing which is another can of worms)

I read wiki and didn't get the relation between this Konoe guy and the 10 year long war? It seems in history he's going to Oda's side anyway so Shizuko only accelerates it. Someone can explain?

@Nep For context, I would point to Hideyoshi, the backlash isn't something as simple as a nitpick if they are historically accurate. Its basically a new-money sort of situation at the least, the kuge still thought Hideyoshi as a baffoon (despite all his attempt at becoming "cultured", through sponsoring and mastering tea ceremony and dancing). At least Hideyoshi was a male samurai, Shizuko is even further behind given the period's misogynistic tendencies.

As for the "useless women", its not so much that they are "useless" but that they are so affluent and pretty that they "don't need to work", compared to peasant girls who could not afford to have their foot maimed. Basically, princesses and heiresses simply have their own charm of exclusivity. (for record, historically concepts of "beauty" include, chubbiness - eats well unlike peasants, white skin - never in the field thus never getting a tan, EXTREMELY long fingernails - no need to work therefore "can afford to maintain ten inch fingernails on every finger", feet binding - same as fingers, breast binding - could afford to hire wetnurses therefore don't need to nurse own children, asthmatic - either by harness or by medical condition, etc.)
