It's not that hard to understand, really.

Coffee is bitter. Because it's bitter, not a lot of kids drink it. Despite being bitter, lots of adults drink it. Therefore, drinking coffee makes you seem more mature.

@Gabugab You are right. Nice finding. Such a bittersweet moment. But the problem was Koto herself. She made the big sister persona and sister zoned herself for years, then the moment she developed feeling for Eiji, it was already too late. Not counting that Eiji is super dense too.
