@HermesPasser based on the author's intended backing off, it makes no sense. HOWEVER, if it really is a case of him giving up on that "fake ideal out there" for the "real right here" there is an element of finding the happiness that was right here all along, which is extremely satisfying. Besides, she's not opposed to going "out there", she invited him to go to the cafe after all. My confusion is why she's a downfall when she seems to more be freeing him from a delusion.

So, if I'm understanding the afterword correctly, the male protagonist never fall for her, even after a few more rounds of sex then..? The girl then felt the "burden" that she's holding back his studies by constantly seducing him into sex. In the end, since it's impossible to get him fall for her, she then pulled herself out?
