@DANDAN_THE_DANDAN
Given how Emilyko gives her master a goodnight kiss every night, I'd say that's exactly the case.
This seems too much affection for someone who's supposed to only be one's own face.
@YamiryuuZero: Or the shadows are the 'outside' persona, a blank that's created just to fulfill whatever society is trying to make of us.
And the Living Dolls are actually the 'real' persona, pure and unrestrained self, hence why they easily show their emotions.
The whole training as a maid is basically learning to conform to rules of society. The 'outside' informing the 'inside' what should/shouldn't be done.
Then the 'debut' is going out into society proper, to mingle among those who also have put on their masks.
:v what I'm trying to say is this is still secretly as fucked up as Kuro, sasuga author.
And despite the sinister feel, it isn't portrayed that way at all. We get everything from the perspective of a happy brainwashed girl who's always lived like this and finds this all perfectly normal. Eerie.
