that's alot of soot. Isn't the amount of soot a shadow can produce equivalent to their power? meaning Kate is probably fairly strong and she seems to have a particular talent in its manipulation to boot (john seems to be similar but is more a brute forcer than a skilled manipulator the opposite of kate).
