Christopher seems to be the previous leader of the star badges (forgot name), but seemed to have either
a) Died like shirley or in a similar fashion OR~ became the masked failed servants that dont speak or acknoledge anyone, and are tools to be used.

b) He betrayed/ was a traitor/ rebelled against "great grandfather" and was ultimately disposed of along side his "living doll" (accomplice perhaps).

c) Similar to "b" he escaped from there and is building up a faction/ group to over through this ridiculous cult/regime and is connected to the cloaked shadow from the earlier chapters.

d) similar to "a", he could have just been changed back into his original form and forgotten everything, and has been forbidden to become a shadow again? idk.

So many things to speculate! Cant wait for the reveal.

@Nimroth Wouldn't that make it more likely for them to be different? Rather than being the same, I think it'd be more likely for them to be foils.

@ktensei As far as I can tell most of them hasn't been shown as being entirely the same though and the similarities that are there are partially because their whole education is centered around making the shadow and face synchronizing with each other, aside for obeying the grandfather.
What is shown as similar most of the time is their mannerisms and not so much the personalities necessarily.

All we know about Christopher can be summarized in three points.
1. He was the former leader of the star-bearers.
2. He was well liked and respected in that role.
3. The current star-bearers do not like hearing or speaking his name.

While point 3 may be indicative of his death or something else unexpected, the reason the current star-bearers don't like his name could be simple jealousy. In which case, Christopher is not around anymore because he was invited to the adults' building and successfully promoted.
