I feel like the protagonist's personality did a 180° turn right at the end there, for the sake of a quick wrap-up. Like, where did the all-out puppy-dog attack come from?

I mean, it's not so bad that it bothers me, I guess, just seems kind of like a lazy throw-in-the-towel move to glide past all the awkward progression that should have been there.
