It's pretty obvious imo. The wife had put out a hit on her husband because he was abusive. That's why Kanako killed him and told the wife what to do next.

I was going to retort with some witty reference to "Meet the Sniper" but then I realized this entire series is a "Meet the Sniper" reference, so see above. All I'll say is that even contract killers observe their targets, and Kanako is very clear in that she's a killer with higher ethical standards than the rest, hence why she's an "anti-hero"

I think regardless of the circumstances, this is Kanako's job. The client in this chapter was the woman who was implied to be hit. Sometimes it's not clear, but throughout this manga, all the people Kanako's killed are job assignments. It's why she's in the area in the first place and often has her phone out before she kills. The only instance I recall where she killed someone who wasn't on her list was that molester on the train, but even then, Sakurai said that someone probably ordered a hit on him already, and they just hadn't gotten to his name yet. Also, Kanako likes killing people, but she also knows it's wrong to enjoy that sort of thing, so she's always constantly trying to find ways to justify her actions. That's why we always see each target doing something awful before she kills, rather than showcasing positive characteristics that may give Kanako doubts. We aren't meant to put too much thought into whether these killings are just (if killing can even be justified) , because Kanako certainly isn't.

Also, I feel that with the woman who ordered the hit crying, "I'm sorry, I'm just remembering everything up til now..." it's implied that the abuse was not an anomalous one-time thing or an accident/misunderstanding. (not that abuse is only valid after the second time one gets beat up or verbally/emotionally ripped apart, but I know many partners/family members endure it long after the first occurrence)

Of course it's not an impulse kill. She had a key to a stranger's house. How is she supposed to just manifest that out of thin air on accident? She got the key to the house because it was a hit she had prepared for in advance.

Yeah, it's not direct but most ppl Kanako killed are targets, maybe except the one when she called Sakurai and he helped her erase the evidence. She's contemplating whether it's right to kill them or not (before kills them anyway). It's not literal impulsive. Some guys seems innocent, but, eh, that's what the client want.

@gamma2015 I think that would be hard to understand because ot seems like the murder was out of the blue. The order of events appears to be

1. Kanako is about to unlock her door to go home.

2. She sees a husband abusing his wife

3. She kills him.

If we're supposed to believe she was hired to do that, then yeah, the author should start explaining what happens. After all, there's no reason for us to believe she was hired, so a detail like that should be explained. We've seen her kill people she didn't need to multiple times, so killing a man who shw just happened to see abusing his wife is expected.

I joke all the time with people that my generation (90s+, basically) will have an incredibly easy time with retirement, because we're already accustomed to entertaining ourselves, by ourselves. Video games in particular makes it really easy to spend an entire day on.
But when it comes to actually living a life? I can't imagine myself just "being in a house" for a few decades, even if it's prettied up as "managing a household."
What if my partner dies? What the fuck do you do then? Find another one to fund your lifestyle? Holy marmoset, that sounds like a bad deal.

I genuinely can't believe a workaholic country like Japan actually supports the idea of one partner not working. I know they still stick by traditional rulesets, but that's pretty absurd.

Is this the first time Kanako's interacted with a customer? Although TBH that might be the first time a customer is present on the pages. Isn't that a bit dangerous however; when the police figure it wasn't an accident but a job, they have an eyewitness to grill for details on the assassin.

We literally see her put it into a door and in the next frame open that same door to another person's house. Like there's no open doors in the previous panel so it's definitely not something she happened to see. Then we see her leave through the same door and then walk off into the night. Presumably to go home cuz she doesn't live here.
