Shijou Saikyou no Mahou Kenshi, F Rank Boukensha ni Tensei Suru - Vol. 2 Ch. 14

Smart man !
The last thing you want is being used like a god damn puppet by some rich fat bastard.

Not going to lie, I never understood why some stories with adventurer's guild have that condition where if you're high ranked you become affiliated with the government. While it makes sense on paper to want powerful people to not be unaffiliated and therefore potentially uprise, realistically speaking if you're an S rank adventurer you have enough power to destroy said government = how do they expect to control that S rank adventurer? The entire concept of an adventurer is someone who is free to do what they want but needs a way to make money while doing what they want.

With everything that guild made them put up with to get registered, him rejecting it and them knowing he is not going to be bringing them glory (or massive cash from the sales of his quest materials) is kind of fitting.

@wanfai : A lot of these stories just have a horrible balance of power between the government and the guilds. because the author did not flesh out the society enough. But, in my experience, normally that rule comes when only the MC is that powerful, but others in those ranks are not.

@wanfai

The amount of work they need high ranking adventurers for differ from world to world, nation to nation, city to city basically.
And most of the quests they probably would get , would be adventurer related quests, just not necessarily the types the adventurers might want to take.
If they however are strong and pretty-looking... they might be called upon to be bodyguard escorts for nobles of the other gender. And from there, it depends on the law and rulers in that nation. If the rulers are just ,the adventurers aren't punished for disobeying rubbish like that unless the rewards are high. If the nobility in that nation are extremely proud, they would probably punish the adventurer, and sooner or later adventurers would leave that nation.

hmm.. he should atleast compromise with C or E rank... well i understand him, but i think he will be promoted soon anyway
thanks for chapter

@Robbini
To add to that, often it seems that high ranked adventurers are treated more like purchased mercenaries. They become obligated to do military service when asked, work directly with noble's as their personal "muscle", or become bargaining chips for deals, like "if you do this for me, i will 'lend' you this adventurer for a while to do with as you please", some may even hire strong adventurers to fight in arenas. And because it is a request from a noble, they have to listen. The guild likely sets in place a rank restriction to protect weak adventurers from being abused by that system. So keeping the rank under that level is best since they cant "force" you to promote.

@wanfai there's a difference between being able to wreck the regular army and sow chaos and discord if the government tries to strong arm you, and actually having the personality to do it. Plus, it's a hassle and clean up is a mess. Once you do something like that you're stuck, either feared and loathed, or constantly up against assassins and bounty hunters for the rest of your life.

@icarushector : not to mention, people tend to have points where their guard us lowered (like while sleeping) and would have difficulties keeping their guard up 24/7.
Heck a honey trap would takedown so many it us not funny.

Why do you have to be forced to receive orders the more you're high rank that's not how it should work.

@Nurarihyon the guild probably gives you more help, better prices and resources and you get treated more like a high level noble but those are just golden handcuffs so that you are in their debt and then they can call it in when they need it
Like that series about the daughercon adventuerer she refused to rank up past B since at A and S you were bound to the country and she'd have to spent to much time away from her daughters

uuh...still think that at least Yuri should have at least compromised on a C or D rank so that at least he would've been saved the hassle of being looked down upon but eh, let's be honest we just want to see the bit where a bunch of D-rankers try to bully Yuri, right?

I want to live freely, so I’ll do as I like

So many isekai series have this exact string of words. Like, I get that it’s pulp fiction for overworked salesmen, but seriously.

Why bother with being an B rank adventurer?

He already achieved Pinnacle of Adventurer,
Twice to be exact,
As Great Sage
As Great Warrior

Fucking boring. So boring. More I want to live however I like bullshit, that’s not going to go anywhere. Guess we can wait for this to get axed.

∧_∧ THANKS NEPU!
(´ ∀`) BIG KUSA!

Spoken like a real boss.

@LordPigeater7
You might think it's boring and it will get axed but the Japanese audience begs to differ.

I can't tell if this story is supposed to be a slice-of-life story without the actual slice-of-life chilled carefree atmosphere and stuff, but I don't see a core plotline, objective, antagonist or conspiracy too...
