He's looking at a map first.
Though it's still questionable why a map has that kind of specific info in the first place. Like, most map would still list it as normal village if it just destroyed recently, or simply not list it anymore if it's been destroyed for quite a while.

@Nalin The village is not necessarily on the other side of the continent. Remember that this is a fiction, so for all we know their world might be 10 times, if not 100 times bigger than ours. A continent for us could be a medium-sized kingdom for them, although that is very unlikely to be the case, its still possible.
Also, you should look closely at the location of the village on the map. It is within the boundary of the kingdom they're in and is located right on the border of the kingdom. If any king didn't know the situation at the border of his kingdom, then I would consider him to be either incompetent or a puppet monarch( ie. King in name only, no real power).
