Because he was a first crest back then, he created OP weapons and armor instead of creating original magic. Since the first crest is better at crafting things and enchanting them, not creating magic.

This guy is scared of a forest of natural monsters after fighting hordes of demons and the equivalent of a lesser god. I get being cautious but c'mon, if there was anything scary in the forest its head would've been peeking out over the canopy.
