Okay, my theory: All this happened in Eren's memories. He will wake up by the tree again & have a redo. Maybe he can change the future or maybe it's a loop. I've thought something like this ever since rewatching ep1 + knowing that the attack titan knows the future. Maybe I'm wrong and it turns into a nothingburger, but I feel like it's a too important thing to dismiss.
I guess multiple people have woken up crying, thinking they had a long dream now though... Which is even more suspicious, so maybe it's not about the attack titan after all. idk.
