I "used to" not care much about the plot though.

I can barely count the number of interesting Isekai series that I'm excited about the update.
Let see, "Sword shisho", "Kage", "Villainess lv 99", "Maou-sama retry", "Knight and Magic", "Slime". Yep, that's all.

I wouldn't say he was angry, but it is was a desperate situation to be in from his perspective. He needed strength so he could survive in this world, so Sofia rejecting him at the time felt to him like being abandoned to die without even being given a fighting chance. Remember, all his peers received skills and stats they could live comfortably with yet he alone got this raw deal. He eventually got over it and found his way, but there's still some feelings on the matter.
