I hate this trope.... I hate it for the single and simple reason that: it doesn't make logical sense. It never makes sense. If these mangaka's would simply make this trope physically possible I wouldn't care anymore!
She's being held chest down by the fence at her waist. While full body facing away from her, he moves over to cover her to his immediate left still in a crouched position. So before the ball hits him in the face they are both in a position that would make even facing each other difficult at best! How does his face reach her chest in 1 swift motion after taking blunt force to his face??? Logically he should have ether landed on top of her head and back or if she leaned up smacked their heads together. Her chest is too low and his head is too high with too little room to maneuver to make this situation possible in 1 swift movement.
