I think the current translation is fine. Using "Shonen is still a "shonen"" is just a repetition and it's not comfortable to read IMO.

Shounen is still shounen works for me.
It's one of those characteristics of Japanese language that can be accepted in writing form but sound weird when spoken. Why not take advantage of that and go all the way in?
