Shuukan Shounen Hachi

Author/Artist: MASUDA Eiji
That's all I need to know to follow this.

"I recognize that author's name for some reason". *Opens first chapter.*

I'M IN. DON'T CARE WHAT IT'S ABOUT, I'M IN FOR THE LONG HAUL.

Masuda Eiji really knows how to use page turns and expressions to get the desired effect. Case in point: the page with everyone admitting their crush on Mikeya was hilarious and the page where Hachi realizes the gap between them was quite heartbreaking.

Here's hoping it'll have a healthy serialization like JwWw

Man, Masuda Eiji is just in a class of his own when it comes to characters and development while still maintaining a very funny tone. Like you read this or Jitsu wa with their ridiculous premises and yet he still writes better character development and realistic feeling characters than 99% of the school life manga that exist.

I also enjoy that I've seen people saying this manga is moving way too fast when it only feels that way because most manga take 100 chapters to do any kind of actual development.

"I also enjoy that I've seen people saying this manga is moving way too fast[…]"

How is it moving too fast? >.> It's still introducing the main cast and it's doing it damn well.

@OniBarubary And that's clearly a skill he learned from the later chapters of Jitsu wa as well. The beginning chapters were kinda slow like everything else, but the farther he got along the more story and more impact he pushed out. It's kinda fun watching mangaka grow.

Mmmhmm.

Is Masuda Eiji the only dude who writes really good main characters in shonen nowadays? Like, even when they use tropes or fall back on pretty standard character traits there's just something charismatic and genuine about his characters. Makes you wanna root for them.
