To him it feels like no time has passed at all, tons of people he knew have died since it's not like his older brother was the only other man he knew, and the girl he literally just declared his love to is missing. Missing for so long, she's likely presumed dead. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if anyone needed an adjustment period with everything that's been shoved in his face.

Can you give examples of the plot-holes? Also, it's pretty clear that the world has gone to shit with only women around. In addition, it was heavily implied that since mostly men were in STEM; technological progress has declined and they can't use all the technology that's available because some important technologies require specialized knowledge.
