IMO the parents are acting less out of love, and more out of expected social roles to protect their surface reputations/face by suddenly caring for Alejandro again.

Back then they could use the curse as an excuse for neglecting him, but now that Alejandro's cured that's no longer viable. He has a role as the heir, and not being seen as prepping him for his inherited role would be a PR blow to people of their status ("Their one and only heir's all OK now to resume his duties, and his parents are still neglecting him? How shameful!).

TLDR Personal relationships are an aside, but noble appearances are always paramount. Like how Alejandro's parents don't love each other or their son, but family reputation/power is always first.

There is preparing a heir that you have been neglecting up till now and then there is sucking up to the guy you have been neglecting.

@Nep I suppose "PR blow" is an awkward/clunky way of expressing my thoughts on this, my apologies.
As another commenter pointed out, they've been very cynical in their treatment of him; they immediately start grooming him as heir to maintain that facade of reputation.
I agree people will be pissed off; although I think this is more of an open secret matter.
