@GreenDragon I see no reason to have a problem. THe King is clearly attempting to induce stockholm syndrome or lay the grounds for propaganda about how she likes being kidnapped away from her parents.
She probably only got back to her parents after being forced to reach some sort of agreement like marrying into the family.
As an aside. People (including the author)generally underestimate how psychologically scarring it is for children to get kidnapped or seperated from parents. Britain sent their kids away to the countryside to keep them safe during WWII and in the end the children that had to deal with constant bombings in London were saner.

I think she is over-dramatizing her situation [as is evident from the maids' whispering]. I think she is not a hostage to begin with. Her country sent her to this empire to stay in this empire for peace and as a sign of goodwill.

And seeing as how she has her own palace, attendants; often engaging in casual encounters with other people in the royal court, and even the occasional flirting with the men there; And eventually going on to date, fall in love and then later get married with the crown prince of all people, a hostage is clearly not what she is.

I don't know what the actual title for her would be, but an ambassador might be a more suited title for her, rather than a hostage.

To those complaining about princess using the "hostage card"

Unfortunately for you guys, "hostage" is correct. Maybe its to gather sympathy or maybe its said because it is just facts. Like others may have already said, it is usually a 'sign of goodwill' or a 'sign of peace'.

It is usually when "two countries" don't want war and one country needs to offer something as collateral (to ensure peace).

Basically, Country A puts important person A into Country B to declare "we have no intentions of declaring war so please just leave us alone (or other requests)." That way, important person A would be in danger when Country A steps out of line.

That being said, it is also a two way thing. Country B has to treat their hostages well or face political backlash/war etc.

Lets take Three Kingdoms as an example. Liu Shan went to Luoyang after surrendering. He was treated well enough to the extent he said he was "too joyful to think of home" when asked if he missed Shu. However, for all intents and purposes, he is a hostage. (and the question itself was most likely to test whether Liu Shan was still a threat. Had he replied that he missed Shu, he would most likely be killed.)


[On the other hand, I feel that Elenora is a bitch looking to usurp power based on the way she interacts with Alejandro. Its probably why she "treated him well" and then ditched him for another man. Basically its about who has more power]

@felinowottgald That may have been the original goal but think about it from her perspective. Alejandro started seeing her as a romantic prospect whereas she had only seen him as a sort of younger brother. Even if she learned to love him romantically and not platonically it would be a huge change for her and the fact that her background is much lower than him would make his life unnecessarily difficult. In her mind, she's making his life better by leaving since he can then fall in love with someone else if she's not always hanging around him.
