Character choice doesn't matter as much though. Especially if you're just starting, you want to pick a character you like. It's still possible to be really good and get results even with characters that aren't considered very strong. Examples include Dot_Nova winning Red Bull Conquest with Jack-O, Rikir making it to 5th with Enkidu at Evo 2019, Rangchu winning Tekken 7 finals with Panda, and JBelanger placing 2nd at Climax of Night [re:run] with FMiyako. If there really is such a large difference, you're probably not playing a very balanced game.
