Song of the Sky Walkers (Long Strip) - Ch. 14 - Recovery

OMG baby girl she indeed is hella reckless. But OMG A HUMAN FURNACE! !! Everyone who told me he was keeping her to eat her was right!!!!
Many thanks

Omggg the martial nephews reaction was so funny (despite how normal the reaction was)

And I’ve read enough Xianxia novels to know that a human furnace is basically someone who is used for dual cultivation because they’re very beneficial. While human pills are exactly what they sound like. People can be refined into pills that boost other people’s cultivation.

Tho both are beneficial to others it’s never good for the people with those physiques, yikes.

Lmao now we just have to figure out what evil teacher is planning to do with A-ting. Human furnace or pill? Both ways he’d have to “eat” her 💀💀 tho the meaning of that may vary 😳🙈

(Either way both methods are actually disgusting especially with A-ting only being 7. Teacher is really a scumbag.)

Can someone who understand wuxia / xianxia terms enlighten me about the difference between spiritual and physical Qi? And could spiritual Qi be used to perform physical martial arts and vice versa (physical Qi used to perform spiritual arts)? What is mixed Qi that A-Ting mentioned, what is the methods to obtain it? If A-Ting becomes a human furnace would it mean that she couldn't become a celestial being, because she would just use Tu-na breathing method to strenghten and prolong her life and not to spiritually ascend? And did the Tu-na breathing method the reason why her injured ribs heal faster or because of that 'mixed Qi' she 'consumed'?

Sorry if I asked to much, I find the lore in this story fascinating but difficult to comprehend 😰.

And for the record I really don't read a lot of wuxia and never read any xianxia story, I only read some chinese manhuaa back in the day called Impeccable Twins, and some korean wuxia like Yongbi, and Gosu.

Ooooh are we about to see her develop her "lightsaber" technique?
Exciting to imagine, I can't wait for the next chapter, thanks for the release!

Using a computer as a metaphor...
physical qi = hardware
spiritual qi = software
You use(software) spiritual qi to (overclock) boost (hardware) physical qi capabilities, but it is limited by the strength of physical qi
You can achieve higher capabilities if you have (high-end) stronger (hardware) physical qi

Humans furnace means that the teacher let A-Ting cultivates and develops True Essence energy so in the end he can suck it out of her, like Dementor

Yes, she heals faster because she used spiritual qi to boost her natural body healing process (that is already higher than regular person)

B. Go A-Ting!
But it is nice seeing how good of an older brother he's turning into too!

hi, one of the translators here to [try and] answer your questions XD

What is mixed qi?
[ul]To be honest, the world of wuxia has a lot of common elements shared between works, but every story has its little nuances and tweaks to the general mythology and system, and the author of Sky Walkers often throws these terms at readers fully expecting us to know what she means by them. "Mixed qi" is our translation of 真气, which more literally translates to "true qi." From some research, I found that in Daoist cultivation, this refers to a naturally occurring life force energy which is a mixture of a person's natural internal qi and the qi he/she has drawn from the outside world-- hence the chosen term "mixed qi" (I know, I'm so imaginative ;w; ). I would assume one gains this qi both naturally and through training.[/ul]

What is spiritual qi and can it be used for martial arts?
[ul]"Spiritual qi" or even just "Qi" (灵气/气) usually refer to the same thing in a cultivation context. This is a special kind of energy that celestials, cultivators, and spiritual/demonic beasts cultivate that also naturally occurs in some mythological plants and things like that. I believe access to this type of qi comes from opening a person's special meridians and connecting to heaven and earth. The way the story is going, it seems that spiritual qi can indeed be used to enhance mortal martial arts in place of mixed qi.[/ul]

Can you ascend through Tu-Na breathing alone?
[ul]I am not sure. Tu-Na usually just helps the user grow stronger and refine their qi. Usually, some sort of event or revelation is needed in order to break through to the next overarching stage of cultivation (e.g. Qi Refinement to Foundation Building). True ascendance into becoming an immortal celestial requires that a person becomes one with the Way (Dao), and very few actually achieve this. However, this does not mean that it is impossible for A-Ting to grow stronger.[/ul]

How did A-Ting recover from her broken ribs so quickly?
[ul]The Tu-Na breathing and being a cultivator probably helped, but in the chapter it's implied that Qu Chen gave her some techniques that would speed along her recovery.[/ul]

All in all, wuxia takes quite a bit of guesswork to translate :'D but I hope this clears up some of your confusion.

@tasneem late comment ik but i'm curious, what's the difference between "human furnace" and "human pill"?

edit: ok i looked it up and uh...

I'm not as well-versed with cultivation stuff as our dear translator, but just wanna chip in on some terms, well... term.

Soul search - this is basically scanning someone's soul to extract their memories. Although there might be (really high-level) methods to counter it, 99.9999% of time there's no defense against it, especially if you're just a mortal going up against an immortal.
