The story isn't from the same perspective as the other, it's more like we are seeing it from the elf girl's perspective with the focus changing back to the guy and mer on occasion.

If this is anything like the story it is based off (i think its based off of it) possible NTR warning right here. His old girlfriend is a saint and went in a party with the hero to kill the demon king and after they succeeded the hero (who is a dick btw) asked for her hand in marriage, then the MC ran to the mountain before she could answer or even react. I didn't read the light novel or web novel (if there are any) but there's a chance that she doesn't want to be with the hero or just plainly rejected him, it's all up in the air right now. I'm hoping she whopped his ass and if its NTR im just gonna drop.

No ntr here, LN got it changed and this is most likely following that. In any case the NTR was rather light and more believeable but this story is quite ridiculous and shouldn’t be taken to seriously so it works.

Who cares about the changes when it all goes well with all of it. and the least I can get from those changes, is, that I have a continuation (which I so badly wanted, after completing that little piece) of a manga (alternate ver.), which already ended.

Because the original source had become stale everytime a new heroine is introduced. The premise had been basically the same. Thank God the childhood friend didn't follow that same route.
