Professional monster hunters don't want to fight monsters in an advantageous chokepoint or utilize the walls to shoot/throw stuff down but gladly rush into open where they can be easily surrounded by the vastly superior numbers.
Big bad evil guy grabs one of the few humans relevant to the plot out of thousands of options because reasons.
I don't expect much from these stories, but still...

@Magneticmagnet Actually the adventurers are not exactly trained soldiers or anything. They should fight like goblin slayer does sure, but if we have learnt anything its that freelance sellswords like adventurers are the "who needs armour or a helmet? I'm awesome" types. So stupid battle plans are hardly surprising. If anything the castle/wall itself is the issue. There was no one on top raining death on the goblins at all. We had mages who wanted to go out into the fray rather than drop magic from the top of the wall. That was the truly stupid aspect. There appears to be no wall defensive measure at all. No one on top doing stuff, not the guards, no one.

The big bad evil guy makes perfect sense though. He spent this whole time being a corrupt idiot/asshole and trying to make that one girl his plaything. So the moment he's on the ropes he takes shady demon pills, becomes a monster and tries to take what he wanted all this time by force. HE was the plot so of course his actions will be plot relevant. Did you not realize that demon was the lord who causes all this annoyance with Tata?

@creamedice Yeah i wonder if the translation is off. What i imagine they mean't is that killing the goblin king might be the only option but its not a good idea regardless. With Wazu he may have changed plans given how strong Wazu is. He may not understand Wazu's full power but he probably understands enough that with him there they could fight the group head on instead of scattering them to the winds.

It does feel like they missed some stuff, like a few lines or some context.

@Merilirem Even the most stupid adventurer should realize that being surrounded is bad. Those that don't, get killed before reaching a decent rank unless they're exceptionally lucky or talented. But then again the city guard is missing in action and the author most likely didn't do any research about siege warfare (or even use common sense placing ranged units on the wall), so another inconsistency wouldn't be surprising.

As for the bad guy, I'll admit I have already forgotten pretty much everything that has nothing to do with Mear. This story is one of those that goes in from one ear and out of the other. Now that you mention it, there was someone trying to force that girl with black hair to be his. I guess it was the lord lol.
