This arc here feels like a forceful romantic progression, plus doesn't seem to make the rest of the story progress in any way. I'll be glad once it resumes the main narration.

@Danoso if I remember correctly they had a bit of a relationship starting then in one of the competitions a while back she was severely wounded guarding him (and possibly lost one of her martial spirit things as a result) while he was charging up one of his mega cannons and after the match he vowed to take care of her forever
...also if I remember correctly they lost that match on a technicality because one of the opponents got beaten but barely not disqualified then forgotten and after the mega barrage took out everyone else, disqualifying him cause he burned out all spirit energy in the attack, he (enemy guy) stood up again at the end thus claiming the match

didn't feel like going back and rereading to verify so I *might* be wrong, but I don't think so, it was before the school exchange so it was a while ago
