@halloween20 Ignoring a cat is a pretty good strategy. They often seem to like being the ones to approach rather than be approached, keeps everything on their terms I suppose.

So just write "Then allow this old man to explore the road ahead" / "Then allow this old man to scout ahead"
"to make a head start" doesn't really work as an offer to check for traps.
