Well I admit I'm a massive softy but that end was a lot more emotion than I expected this story to wring out of me, at least early on. Her starting to smile, get excited, and come out of her shell a bit only to slink back in again later was a painful and all-too familiar scene. I am beginning to appreciate Yamada as having a bit more social grace (in some ways) than your typical no-one protagonist, so I doubt the drama will string out long, but I feel very bad for Torii nonetheless.
The date was quite cute though, so there's that. I feel like I also probably read a lot into little things my crush does, one-sidedly digging the pit of my affection ever deeper while they're just itchy or frustrated or dealing with some tiny mundane irritation like a kernel stuck in their teeth.
