Summer Fantasy

I remember seeing this on facebook but I can't understand a thing lol thank you for translating!

Woah. And it's not even from Japan.

That aside, I'm amused that the whole "if you don't spit out the seeds, kid, a watermelon plant will grow out your ears" sort of thing that parents say is a thing in China too.

On a more sedate note, this is actually fairly well-written for what it is, and of course quite well-drawn as well. I believe the whole thing is possibly rather intentionally allegorical, though it could just be 100% literal and incidentally touches on some universal themes of denial and acceptance.
I was wryly amused by how spot-on the bit where the mom was like, "oh my god, can't you just, you know, be normal?"—in that universal unthinkingly cruel response to loved ones having problems that you don't know what to do about.

Honestly though I'd have just about sworn that throwing up watermelons here is somehow a metaphor for being gay. She's straight by all appearances, though. I'm probably projecting.

Also, nice story aside, eating those fruits seems rather unhygienic. XD
