That's ironic because a rabies case was reported in February 1989

Whether its to be correct or not, its still a good way to learnt back at that time.
Compared to nowadays shounen medical manga, this is one of the best to read since it has lots of cases, including crimes and biological weapons that developed by scientists which is broaden our basic knowledge in it albeit its far from complex medical.

I'm fairly certain that it's talking specifically about Japan, which has been rabies-free since the 50s thanks to vaccines, quarantines, and the fact that it's an island nation.
