I remember seeing an anime episode of this shit fucking forever ago, it weirded me the fuck out. You got the normal-ass looking ninja turtles and then they get these magic rocks that turn them into super jacked power ranger looking motherfuckers. And that dragon on the cover is shredder. Also, bebop and rocksteady straight up pull a fist of the north star or jojo meme and go from goofy normal look to ultramuscled super demon tough guy form instantly

Oh Japan. I, too, remember that OVA. I sometimes wonder if it's revenge for how ridiculous American media can be about ninjas and such. Like the time Chris Farley became one.

I liked it. It took the classic characters from the 80's cartoon, and mixed in a hefty dose of sentai superhero team stuff, and the formula made for a few well written stories. It is most certainly over the top, but that's what sentai shows are. And the super cute fairy helps a lot too.
