Damn, that Springfield family is into all kinds of shit, aren't they? The Nagi/Negi branch is playing all kinds of magical havoc in Japan and on Mars, then this branch is running an assassination gig in Korea. The English must still be kinda salty about the first half of WWII in Asia for them to be dumping all their loose cannons there.

Holy crap, that makes a lot more sense now.
The previous translation wasn't a translation at all, just some kind of rewrite.

So the MC wasn't a target of a paid assassination. It's just an over the top dad doing his dad thing.
The MC actually was confused with the dad thing too. That's more "normal" too.
