It's still technically filler if it's irrelevant to the main story, really. By that logic,

Xiao Yu's subplot going nowhere is by strict definiton, filler. Canon can be filler, I think, especially if the creator just uses it to pad the work, really.

I don't think it's that bad though. I still think that the biggest sin of Mad Snail is dues ex machina.

Yeah, I don't remember it being a big deal, but my memory is a bit fuzzy considering how long ago I read it.

In the novel, I had caught up to the (then) current chapters shortly after

he met that demon race boy. It was not too long after he becomes leader of the Feather Sect. If I'm not mistaken, he's a Martial Ancestor at this point? If you're current with the novel, how much further along has the story gotten? I remember the releases being particularly slow and inconsistent.
