I guess it's correct for both sides. You make a robot look female, then technically, its gender would be female.
On the other hand, a robot has, strictly speaking, no gender. Unless their reproductive organs are present, thus -in my mind- qualifying to have a "gender" (It's another matter if they work, in which case they'd be Gynoids? Is that the right sci-fi species?)
